Tool Characteristics

Name of the tool
Manual on Environmental Management in Project Design (MEMPD).

Data required to utilise tool
Quantitative and qualitative data

Form of output
MEMPD describes procedures to be followed in designing sustainable buildings.

Type of data output
Quantitative
MEMPD contains a number of environmentally relevant data (suggesting an LCA-approach) to support the decision-making. Some of the data are taken from the Danish product-database on life-cycle assessment, UMIP, others from official statistics and R&D-projects.

The handbook emphasises that the data-set is not complete and is meant as an inspiration for the users to include local conditions and newest data available.

Qualitative
MEMPD suggests a procedure for planning and implementing environmental considerations in a project, which includes descriptions of the organisation, the responsibility amongst the actors in the different phases etc. It also contains different tools for mapping environmental problems, prioritising goals and for choosing means.
