Tool summaryName of the tool CEEQUAL - The Civil Engineering Environmental Quality and Assessment Scheme Description of the tool CEEQUAL is an awards scheme assessing the environmental quality of civil engineering projects - a civil engineering equivalent to BREEAM for buildings. It is being promoted by ICE, BRE, CIRIA and a group of committed industry organisations. CEEQUAL is the assessment and awards scheme for publicly rewarding high environmental quality on civil engineering projects. It builds on current guidance and environmental good practice in construction and supports UK Government strategy by providing the civil engineering industry with an incentive and protocol for assessing, benchmarking and labelling the environmental quality of its projects as part of the industry’s contribution to sustainable construction.
Awards are available as:
• a Whole Project Award, intended to be applied for jointly by the client, designer and principal conductor(s);
• a Client and Design Award, to be applied for jointly by the client and designer;
• a Construction-Only Award, to be applied for by the main (or principal) contractor(s);
• a Design & Build Award for project teams that do not include the client, on design & build and other partnership contracts.
The Client and Design Award is available as an interim assessment before construction has started, or as an award for client and designer in a situation where the contractor does not wish to participate in a Whole-Project Award. The latter three awards are offered for situations where the client does not wish to participate in a Whole-Project Award or where the individual team members wish to apply separately for an award that is related directly to their own contribution to a project.
