Framework of Guidelines for Wind Energy development in Wallonia ("Cadre de reference pour l´implantation d'éoliennes en Région wallonne")

Description of the tool
In order to control the fast development of wind-farm project, and particularly to manage impacts on landscapes and use of land, Regional authorities have worked to produce tools.

The Framework establishes, for every concerned domain a set of guidance and criteria for wind-farms projects in Wallonia.

Different scales of impacts, from local (noise, visual impact, etc.) to landscape integration are considered. Benchmark data are inspired by considerations of other European countries, as Germany and Netherlands. Suggestions about public involvement are given and the Framework is also used as a guideline for screening the different aspects of such project when a mandatory EIA is needed.

Public authorities in charge of the granting of the building license developed this tool to help the final decision stage but this Framework is also expected to be used at the inception stage of the project to help the overall decision-making process.
