Description of the tool
Photo montage is a tool for helping to predict the visual impact of a proposed development. This is a useful tool for those involved in the development itself, at the planning application stage, as well as assisting in explaining a proposed development in the public participation and consultation process.

A photographic panorama is taken of a number of view points of the area of the proposed development. Photos should be taken of the same view point at different stages of the day, and if possible at different times of the year to illustrate the varying potential visual impact of the proposal. Using computer technology photographs can be stitched together and the proposed development added to the picture to allow an impression of the potential development.
