Description of the tool
This Checklist is user friendly and designed to be used by those involved in planning or building sizeable developments through the provision of practical tools and indicators to measure the sustainability of developments (both buildings and infrastructure) at site or estate level, and to provide a common framework for discussions between developers, local authorities and communities.

It offers guidance on standards and indicators; gives developers a method of demonstrating to planning authorities that sustainability has been systematically addressed in their proposals; helps planners to specify sustainability in supplementary planning guidance/development codes etc and provides planners with a method of assessing the sustainability aspects of development proposals consistent with DTLR requirements.
